There’s magic at The Green Door. When you step over the granite threshold, there’s an energy and a vibrancy that causes an inadvertent smile to spread across your face. Maybe it’s the melange of colors, the riot of textures and patterns that fill the space or the eye-catching pull of Amy’s artwork, but there’s something inexplicable that draws guests in and takes hold.

For this holiday season, we’re offering two new items that will bring some of the magic of the Green Door home and allow you to spread the excitement to your friends.

The new 2012 Amy Friedman Calendar

Want to take home some of Amy’s favorite prints and savor them all year? The 2012 Amy Friedman calendar is the perfect option, containing 12 of Amy’s iconic images. The 11” x 14” size allows you to easily frame the prints when the month is complete. Available for sale the first week of November, the 2012 Calendar retails for $39.99.

Signature Green Door Candles

Cast a glow in home and heart with these new signature candles from The Green Door. Adorned with four of Amy’s most recognizable paintings, these 11 oz. soy candles will evoke fond memories each time the wick is lit. Four subtle scents are available: Scipio Creek, Bouquet, The Green Door and Love You More. Each candle retails for $24.

The other morning I was driving along the Forgotten Coast (our little stretch of Florida in which Apalachicola sits squarely) and I was struck by the great waves of purple along the road and in neighborhoods.

This is muhly grass, known scientifically as Muhlenbergia capillaries, a type of ornamental grass that is a native plant here on the panhandle of Florida. It’s easy to grow, very hearty and adds gorgeous color to the landscape.

When I walked into the Green Door, I realized that I’m not the only one in a purple haze.

I saw purple cowries, limpets in a lovely lavender shade, amethyst beads and lilac shadows and hills in Amy’s painting.

For me, it evokes the image of great bunches of wisteria and, as we sneak into winter, the color of marshes and sunsets on the Forgotten Coast.

What does purple evoke for you?

A Chinese proverb states: “When you have only two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a lily with the other.”

We can’t argue with the sentiment: to us, flowers are as much food for the soul as bread is for the body. However, we like the fact that Amy’s flowers last longer than a real lily and provide just as much joy.

Here are a few of Amy’s new pieces at the Green Door:

This Little Light of Mine

It’s sad, but inevitable. The days are getting shorter and though we love seeing the sun set over the waves in Apalachicola, we know that funky, interesting lighting is crucial for the shorter days and longer nights of winter.

Here are a few of the lamps and fixtures that we’ve gathered to shed a little light on the subject.

Roof Vent Lamp. We added the sprigs of cherry blossom. I like the juxtaposition between the natural and the industrial.

Vintage Churn Lamp. What sweeter way to reminisce about summer than with this ice cream churn-turned lamp?

Crab lamp. When I’m in a “crabby” mood, the touches of turquoise on this guy cheer me up. It also makes me hungry for blue crabs.

Looking for a special piece to illuminate your living space? Let us know if you’re interested in any of these lamps (call Amanda @ 850.653.1424) or visit the store for more inspiration!
